uTorrent is a free peer-to-peer software that allows you to share movies, music, games and other types of files with other users. However, download speed depends on a number of factors. Here's how to change uTorrent settings to make it faster.
Steps
- 1Open Options and then Preferences. From here, you must change the settings in the General, Downloads, Connection, BitTorrent and Queue tabs.
- 2Change the User Interface Settings so uTorrent does the following:
- Automatically check for software updates.
- Ask you to confirm before any torrents are deleted.
- Exit the program without displaying a confirmation dialog.
- Automatically check for software updates.
- 3Enable the following functions. Put a tick next to the settings for System Tray that will make uTorrent do the following:
- Always display the icon for the system tray.
- Display notifications in the system tray as pop-up balloons.
- Minimize the full-screen display to tray.
- Open the tray icon with a single click.
- Open uTorrent by clicking on the system tray.
- Always display the icon for the system tray.
- 4Set the Display Options that will enable the following display features:
- Display the progress bar graphics.
- Hide the speed limitation in the status bar.
- Alternate the background color for lists.
- Block the display of uTorrent download speed in the title bar.
- Display the progress bar graphics.
- 5Select the following Windows Integration settings:
- Press the button to associate uTorrent with torrent downloads.
- Tick the box for checking association when uTorrent is opened.
- Uncheck the box for starting uTorrent every time you open your computer's operating system.
- Press the button to associate uTorrent with torrent downloads.
Downloads
- 1Change download settings. Tell uTorrent to do the following when you add a torrent:
- Automatically start downloading torrent files.
- Open a window that shows the files that the torrent contains.
- Open the uTorrent main screen.
- Automatically start downloading torrent files.
Connection
- 1Assign the following actions to the Listening Port:
- Use port 45682 for connections coming in.
- Keep the same port instead of selecting a random port every time you start uTorrent.
- Disable UPnP port mapping.
- Prevent uTorrent from being blocked by your computer's firewall.
- Use port 45682 for connections coming in.
BitTorrent
- 1Make sure you have the following additional BitTorrent features selected:
- DHT network should be enabled.
- New torrents should also have DHT enabled.
- Scrape information should be requested from the tracker.
- Peer exchange should be enabled.
- Blank IP or host name should be reported to the tracker.
- DHT network should be enabled.
Queue
- 1Enter the following settings for your queue:
- No more than 10 active torrents being uploaded or downloaded at a time.
- A maximum of 5 active torrents running at once.
